Arrow Season 4 Episode 1 & 2 Review

Episode 1

Rating: 9/10

As I mentioned in my Flash Episode 1 & 2 review, I felt Arrow had a much stronger first episode. This episode showed the many changes that took place from the end of season 3 to the beginning of Arrow season 4. I thought that the acting could still use some improvement but felt the writing and story was pretty good. EXCEPT for all the kissing between Oliver and Felicity. I know the show is on CW but this is still a comic book TV show! Also, I’m not a huge fan of flashbacks. I know that is something Arrow will probably always do, but I feel like the flashbacks are somewhat of the “filler” for every episode now.

Spoilers below!!

Episode Summary: Ray Palmer is “dead” (not really), mysticism was introduced in the form of Damien Darhk, the leader of Hive. It was really cool seeing Darhk stop Oliver’s arrows using his powers. Oliver changed his name from Arrow to “Green Arrow”, Thea is starting to see the side effects of the Lazarus Pit, and Diggle has a sweet new mask. Captain Lance is working with Damien Darhk too! Finally, who died??!! At the end of the episode, we see Oliver standing at a tombstone with someone close to Oliver and Barry. Obviously, this will happen at the end of the season, either at the mid-season or end-of-season finale.

Episode 2

Rating: 8.5/10

I felt this episode wasn’t as good as the first but still on par to have a good season. There was a good amount of suspense and character development. I really enjoyed seeing Felicity come back to Palmer Technologies and the addition of Curtis Holt to the show. Curtis and Felicity will be spending a good amount of time developing new technology for the company. I like the addition of Curtis and look forward to seeing where they go with his character. I think it is inevitable that he learns Oliver is Green Arrow and he will eventually help the team.

Spoilers below!!

Episode Summary: We got to see Oliver and Felicity back in the city and back in the groove of living their normal lives and their Arrow lives. This episode added new villain “Anarky,” who is pretty dark and ruthless; he almost kills Danforth’s daughter before Oliver and Thea come to save her. Oliver mentions that he will run for Mayor and will be going head-to-head against Danforth. Finally, at the end of the episode, we learn that Thea and Laurel are going back to the Lazarus Pit to bring Sara (Black Canary) back to life. It will be very interesting seeing Sara come back to life. We know that Thea is currently dealing with the side effects of the Lazarus Pit. What will happen to Sara when she comes back???
