As “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” approaches there will undoubtedly be more rumors as to what is happening in the movie universe. Though, nothing is more telling than casting rumors and casting confirmations as to how long characters will or will not be involved in the movie.
This week, we are now hearing that Benicio del Toro has been approached to play the villain in episode 8 of Star Wars. If this is true then this would be fantastic. Del Toro is an odd guy and he’s an even better actor. His role as the Collector in “Guardians of the Galaxy” was pretty awesome, and seemingly a role that he was flawless for.
There is no denying his talent, and there is no denying that he would be a great addition to the cast for episode 8, especially with Rian Johnson directing. The real issue here is what this means for the villains in a movie that is still months away. Does the casting of del Toro mean one of the villains in the The Force Awakens is going to be killed off? Or does Del Toro enter an already crowded universe that hasn’t even begun its new era and join forces with Adam Driver and Andy Serkis?
If the rumors are true and he does come in to take the place of a killed off villain, then I believe Andy Serkis will most likely be the villain that dies. Adam Driver is a great young actor who can be committed to this. Andy Serkis is insanely talented, and seemingly is doing motion capture for literally everything, plus he’s got a pretty solid role in the coming “Black Panther” movie (at least I think).
I believe that Benicio del Toro would be an awesome addition to the Star Wars universe, the only concern I have is that a great actor will be traded for a great actor, which I guess isn’t so bad after all.
