If you’re a football fan and have never seen the HBO show Hard Knocks, check it out because it is an in depth look at the life of NFL players while in training camp. The show was created in 2001, with every season focusing on a different NFL team. The 2015 season featured the training camp of the Houston Texans football team. I’ve only watched the first episode of this 10th season but it has been really good to see and learn more about the day-to-day operations in training camp.
One of the great things about this show is being able to learn more about individual players and their lives. While much of the show revolves around being in the Texans facility and the interactions between players and coaches, I enjoyed seeing the players outside of practice hanging out with each other. My favorite part of the first episode was watching newly acquired Vince Wilfork play basketball at what I assume was his house. If you’ve ever seen Wilfork, you’ll know that he is a HUGE guy, probably about the size of a refrigerator (that’s NOT an exaggeration). I was surprised by how good Wilfork shot the ball towards the end of the game!
I’m not entirely sure if this was staged or not, but I really appreciated seeing JJ Watt practicing by himself after everyone left. As a former athlete, I firmly believe that if you want to be the best you should be the first one in and the last one out, putting in the time and hard work. After seeing him working out like that, I’m not surprised that he is one of the most outstanding football players and the current defensive player of the year. In my opinion he should probably be the overall player of the year.
