“I’m the Party Pooper” – Kindergarten Cop Review

I don’t even know where to start. I watched this movie for the first time in a long time and I had so much fun! Basically, this movie is about a cop who goes undercover (Arnold) as a Kindergarten teacher, looking for a boy and mother who are in danger. The dynamic created by putting a hardcore police officer in a room with over twenty five year olds makes for very funny moments.

What made this movie so great were the interactions between Arnold and the students. Now I know that Arnold isn’t known for being a great actor but in this movie, he does a great job of playing both the tough guy at times and playing a clumsy grown man in uncomfortable situations. Perhaps it is because Arnold acted as someone very close to his personality. The kids in the class were so funny too! They had all these one-liners that show both the innocence of the kids and show how smart they are as well.

The writing for this movie is done perfectly for Arnold. I feel like there is no one else that could have played that role as good as he did. It was great how the writing was done in a way that we saw someone who knew very little about kids trying to find ways to engage the kids. For example, Arnold would say something like “Alright kids, we’re going to play a very fun game. It’s called ‘Who is your daddy and what does he do?” I also loved seeing Arnold get overwhelmed at times and even yelling “SHUUUUUUT UPPPPP.” Which actually backfired because all the kids started crying, making things worse. He thought that he was this hot shot police officer and that nothing at the school would compare to the work he has done as a cop.

Now the story wasn’t amazing or anything, but with the expectations set for this movie, what did you really expect? This movie is just a fun movie from a time when Arnold did so much more than make 10 minute cameos in movies. At least that’s what it seems like all he does now days after finishing his time as governor of California. I thought it was really freaky that his partner, who is engaged to another man, kissed him on the lips at the end of the movie. SO WEIRD! Maybe that was put in for dramatic effect. Or perhaps the culture in 1990 was so much different than it is today? Either way, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. Great for the whole family.

Rating: 7/10. Just an overall fun movie. My wife was really skeptical about this movie and had a lot of fun watching this.
