My Top 5 Wii U Games – October 2015

In comparison to some of its predecessors and other leading video game consoles, the Wii U has been quite a disappointment. So much so that people are already predicting that the Nintendo’s next console to come out some time next year. Still, I’ve had a lot of fun playing games on my Wii U. Here are my 5 favorite games that have come out so far:

pikmin_3_release_date.0_cinema_640.05. Pikmin 3

I know this pick may be questionable, but I must admit that this is the first Pikmin game that I have played and man it is so fun. This game is so much fun that my wife who does not like video games at all put in over 30 hours into this game. The story mode is great and the multiplayer modes are so much fun. The game is so simple and creative, which makes it so much fun. I feel as though Pikmin 3 embodies the idea that Nintendo creates games that anyone can play and have a lot of fun. I definitely recommend playing this game if you have a chance. Miyamoto even mentioned that the 4th Pikmin is coming soon, even more reason to try it.

MK8-DLC-Course-HyruleCircuit-Link034. Mario Kart 8

The newest installment in the Mario Kart series is the best in the franchise so far. I love what Nintendo did with this game. They added new mechanics such as the flying portions of maps and the hovercraft parts. The use of DLC has been great as well. The addition of Link and Villager really give the game a little more depth. My hope is that for the next installment of this game that they would make it more of a “Nintendo Kart” rather than just Mario Kart.

mario-maker3. Super Mario Maker

It seems like the Wii U was created with this game in mind. Super Mario Maker takes everyone’s beloved Mario series and flips it on its head giving the power to the players. It is so easy and simple to create and test levels and the amiibo support for this game is amazing as well. Anyone who loves video games and has ever thought about making games should highly consider trying this game out.

intro-img-squid2. Splatoon

This is perhaps my favorite Wii U game currently. Splatoon is Nintendo’s most original intellectual property since Pikmin and is their first mainly online game. While the game has much that it can improve on as far as the online play goes, such as adding voice chat and giving more freedom to change weapons in the queue, the gameplay is amazing. Who would have ever thought that shooting the floor with paint would be so much fun? I love that Splatoon has something going on every weekend. Either a new map, weapon, gear, or game mode are released every weekend. The use of Splatfests have been amazing too. Splatoon is so much fun and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo does next with this game.

super-smash-bros-4-online-outage1. Super Smash Bros 4

This was a no brainer for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone who owns a Wii U had this game. Super Smash Bros 4 is the reason I bought a Wii U and the game has not disappointed. The only thing I was sad about was not getting a story mode like in Brawl. The game is so much fun with the addition of new characters being great too. One of the things I love most about this game is that Nintendo is pretty much willing to put any video game character in this game if they can get the rights. Sonic, Pac-Man, and Ryu are just a few examples of iconic video game characters that have made their way into the game. They should be announcing their next DLC soon. I can’t wait.
