Netflix’s Announcements at TCA

At the Television Critics Association press tour in California, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos took the stage to reveal the internet media streaming company’s plans for the next year. Sarandos revealed that Netflix has a total 475 hours of original programming that will be released by the end of 2015.

The Defenders Confirmed

Netflix confirmed today that their various Marvel television series would culminate with a six-episode miniseries. It was also confirmed that the Jessica Jones series would debut at the end of 2015. The show stars Krysten Ritter as “Jessica Jones” and Mike Colter as “Luke Cage.” It was also confirmed that Netflix would release a Marvel series every six months, with some of the shows getting renewed for second seasons before the crossover event. The Defenders will include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Sarandos also made some comments that it is possible that The Punisher could get his own spinoff series in addition to saying that any of these characters could get their own feature length films.

In addition to the Marvel news, Netflix revealed that their new show Longmire will be released on September 10, 2015. Master of None starring Aziz Ansari will be released on November 6th also starring H. Jon Benjamin, Lena Waithe, Kelvin Yu, and Eric Wareheim. For the rest of 2015, we can expect With Bob and David, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, A Very Murray Christmas, the third season of Hemlock Grove, and animated series F is for Family.
