Paper Mario: Color Splash, Nintendo’s next iteration in the widely-loved Paper Mario series, is set to launch for the Wii U on October 7 in North America, according to the company’s presentation at E3.
The new title sees Prism Island drained of its beautiful colors, which the titular Paper Mario must restore with his paint hammer. The game also features a battle system where the player can paint special cards and flick them to initiate a fight.
Little is known about the game, but since its launch trailer back in March, it appears that longtime fans of the Mario spinoff series are skeptical of the Wii U iteration, arguing that it looks too much like the 3DS game Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which forewent many of the series’ best conventions in favor of a more vanilla style of play. The Big N normally puts a lot of hype into its first-party console titles, but seems resigned to the idea that the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the only thing the Wii U has going for it before the NX comes out.
