Be Smart! Don’t Buy Into All the Nintendo NX Rumors…Yet

The rumor mill is spinning like crazy when it comes to the Nintendo NX. It seems like every few days new rumors about the mysterious Nintendo console that is releasing (supposedly) March of 2017. Recently, a French media outlet Gameblog released an article giving all these different details about the upcoming console. The biggest of these rumors mentioned in the French publication is that the NX should be very comparable to the PlayStation Neo, Sony’s upcoming console. Other details mentioned include a Skyward SwordMario Kart, and Smash Bros remakes as well as third party support by Capcom and Square Enix.

To be honest, I think its very likely that we will get these games remastered and support from Capcom and Square Enix is likely as Nintendo has a good working relationship with both developers. The specs rumor about the NX being comparable to the PlayStation Neo is the one that really seems far-fetched. For one, since the Nintendo 64, Nintendo has not had the more powerful consoles of every generation, showing us that they do not care about specs as much as they do their brands and games. Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America himself at E3 2016 said, “For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content.” He’s clearly getting people ready for the “let-down” that the NX will probably not be the strongest console out there. Looking at the current generation, the Wii U is a whole generation behind the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of hardware, which eventually was a big factor to the financial failure of the Wii U. I only wonder if Nintendo has learned their lesson with the Wii U and realize that at the end of the day gamers want powerful systems.

All this is to say, I would take everything with a grain of salt. Frankly, I’ve pretty much stopped believing any of the rumors and I just wait for official confirmations by Nintendo or Nintendo execs. There is simply too much garbage coming out from who knows where for me to believe every single piece of information that comes out. But it is fun to talk about the NX and I love reading the rumors for entertainment purposes.

One quick note before I finish up here, I do believe the NX will be unveiled in September at the Tokyo Gaming Show. It makes a lot of sense and gives a good amount of time for Nintendo to market this console.

What do you think about all these Nintendo NX rumors? Do you give credibility to any of them or do you think they’re just garbage? Let us know in the comments below!
