Supergirl Season 1 Episode 12

Rating: 7/10

Warning. There will be SPOILERS in this post.

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 12 was a great episode because it accomplished so much. We saw the conclusion multiple storylines and Supergirl had a major revelation in this episode. This episode featured a pretty strong villain in Bizarro. This episode continued the storyline with the cliffhanger that we got in episode 11 that showed a Supergirl imposter on TV. We learn that Bizarro was the creation of the wealthy Maxwell Lord. Lord has always had a strong dislike for Supergirl and when he learned that Kara was Supergirl, he took full advantage of that. The way in which Maxwell manipulated and brainwashed that poor girl into being his imposter Supergirl was pretty sinister. Seeing how Maxwell Lord talked to this girl really solidified himself as a villain. In the end, we learn that the girl who was forced into playing this fake Supergirl just wanted to be normal and feel like a beautiful woman. James Olsen is able to talk her done because he realizes that she is broken for a moment while he is captured by her, giving Supergirl enough time to save the day.

In this episode, much like Oliver Queen from Arrow and Barry Allen from The Flash, Kara realizes that she cannot have love because she needs to protect those that she loves. The thought process is that if people realize that Supergirl has a boyfriend, they will target her boyfriend. This results in Kara breaking things off with Cat Grant’s son. Such a shame because Cat was treating Kara well since Kara was dating her son. It takes a lot for Kara to realize this and it seems that this reality hit her pretty hard. Overall, episode 12 is a solid part of season one of Supergirl and does a good job progressing Kara’s character. I’m curious to see where they take this character and how this season ends. I’m REALLY curious to see how Superman will impact this show. We know that he will for sure make an actual appearance in the show. We know that he definitely exists in this universe because we have already seen Kara texting him in previous episodes.
